Echo manufactures a number of yard equipments, starting from hedge trimmers and power pruners to pumps and chainsaws. They are known to have a wide range of products and be of good quality.

The best thing about Echo is that they give you a lot of choice. In their chainsaws line alone, they have 13 different models available. These models are differentiated by the different capacity engines that drive them. Each of them in turn can be purchased with 3 or 4 different length blades giving you more than 40 different options to choose from.

This is much more than any other manufacturer gives. The nomenclature that they follow too is very simple. All their models are CS something or the other for chainsaws. The number that follows generally denotes the cubic capacity of the engine. So for instance the CS-400 has a 40 cc capacity engine while the CS-8000 has an 80 cc engine.

In fact they are one of the few manufacturers who have a chainsaw for everyone, at every price. For example their chainsaw line starts off with the CS-310 which has a tiny 30.5 cc engine. You get only one 14 inch blade length because this engine is not powerful enough to drive any greater length, but at $199 is cheap enough and powerful enough for those casual users, who need a good quality reliable machine that is not too expensive.

At the other end of the spectrum they have the CS-8000 with a massive 80.7 cc engine. This motor is one of the most powerful ones around, and can drive a blade up to 36 inches in length. It is in fact almost professional quality, and can be used for light commercial work too. At almost $830 though it is not cheap, but if you want one with these specifications, you will be hard put to find one at this price.

In between these two extremes come a wide variety of chainsaws, and you get 8 models in the $200 to $300 range. The number of options you have is enormous, and you can choose just what you need for your purposes.

Echo also has a few top handle models. Here the handle that usually comes at the back of the machine, is mounted on top of it. This feature is something that is not often found in other manufacturers, and for those who prefer it this way, there’s only the Echo to which they can turn.

Price wise, they may seem to be a little on the expensive side. For instance, if you take their cheapest model that costs nearly $200, it is much more than the $120 or $150 that other manufactures price their models at.

The difference is that you will not have any issues with the Echo. Most of the cheap models will have very thin plastic which means that the whole machine vibrates terribly when you operate it. The motor too will not be of good quality, and most of them will get overheated and shut down after half an hour or an hour of use.

Echo makes sure that you get the best that you can find in any segment. Plus they offer so many different choices that you can choose any combination that you want of power, weight and convenience.

Poulan makes a number of different models of chainsaws, both electrical and gas powered. The electrical ones are very good as electrical chainsaws go, but most of us who need some work out of our chainsaws really find that electrical chainsaws are more a nuisance than anything else.

The Poulan Pro series has a two different engine configurations that can come with a number of different lengths of blade. You get blade lengths starting from 16 inches right up to 20 inches.

Most of them share parts, and apart from the difference in lengths of the blade, it is very difficult to tell them apart.

>>> Click here to Compare the Best Poulan Pro Gas Powered Chain Saws <<<

There is however one big problem with Poulan and that is that based on the kind of machine you buy, you will either be very happy with it, or will tear out your hair in frustration. The smaller engined model seems to have some problem with its carburetor which means that after about 45 minutes of use, the engine will just die. You can restart it once the engine cools down a bit, but even then only for a couple of minutes before it gets overheated once again.

Since this is a design flaw, there is nothing that can be done about it except go in for the larger capacity model. The larger capacity one does not have this issue, and almost everyone who has purchased it is happy with it.

Before you get gung ho about it, you need to understand that this machine is built to a price. It costs only around $150 so you cannot expect quality that you get at $350 from it. Apart from this it is a very good machine, and people who use their chainsaws a couple of times a year, find that this machine is more than enough for their needs.

Almost everyone recommends that you go with the 42 cc 18 inch blade one. This seems to be the best compromise between power and blade length, and people who use their chainsaws to cut up a few chords of wood for the winter find that their machine can handle it without any issues.

If the chain is sharpened properly, using ¾ of the throttle is more than sufficient most of the time, and you will have to use it at full throttle very rarely. Because of this, there is no issue with overheating, unlike the smaller engined models.

Even if it costs $20 more the bigger one is better for this reason alone. Plus you get a spare chain free with your purchase, which means that as value for money, this model is better than the 35cc one.

The only negative though is the weight. This one weighs in at around 25 lbs which is around 10 lbs more than similar sized ones from other manufacturers. If this is not a concern for you, then the Poulan Pro should be a good bet. If not, it is better to pause before you put down your money.

It is guaranteed that you cannot do heavy work with this machine, it just does not have the power for it. If on the other hand you have one that is much bigger and heavier for the heavy stuff, you may find it more convenient to go with this one for the light work. If you don’t do any heavy work, but need a chainsaw for light yard work or for chopping wood, then this is more than sufficient.

Just be careful to give it a good clean before you pack it away for the summer. It is good to drain out the oil and fuel, and give it a once over if you want to avoid starting problems when you want to use it again, but then this is true of all gas powered machines.

>>> Click here to Compare the Best Poulan Pro Gas Powered Chain Saws <<<

A chainsaw may not be what the average Joe, or Jack may want in his home. There are very few times when anyone would want to use a chainsaw for anything. Yet just like a tool kit, there are times when it will be invaluable, and having one around for those times is a good idea.

There are only two things that you want in a chainsaw in this case. You want it to be cheap, and you want it to be able to do the work that you want to do.

While there are monsters that can chew down entire trees, they are only going to be useful if you are going to be cutting down trees for a living.

For your home, a relatively small, lightweight, but powerful chainsaw is what you need. Poulan has such a model for exactly this purpose. It is the Poulan Pro 400e.

>>> Click here to get the Poulan Pro 400E on Sale! <<<

Whether you need a chainsaw or not is something that you will have to decide, but if you do want one, you may want to compare the different ones that are available, and below we give you a comprehensive review of the Poulan Pro 400e.

As chainsaws go, there is no difference between one and the other. The 400e has a hand guard and a large start-stop button that is easy to operate. Because it is electrically powered, you just plug it in, press the button, and you are good to go.

The good.

It weighs in at only 14 lbs.

It has a 4 HP motor that is good enough to cut down small trees in just a couple of minutes.

The wrap around handle ensures that your hands do not get injured, even by splinters.

It comes with a anti kickback blade tip, a very good feature considering that most users would not have too much experience in using a chainsaw.

It comes with an automatic chain olier which keeps the chain oiled and therefore well lubricated.

The fact that it is a electrically powered machine means that the amount of noise you generate is much lower than the traditional gas powered one.

It also features an 18 inch, solid steel guide bar.

The whole machine is double insulated, which means that there is no grounding through the machine. This also means that you can use it in any standard 120 volt socket.

The bad

There’s very little that is negative in the Poulan Pro 400e. It gives more than enough power and is light enough for anyone to use. If at all you want to gripe about anything you can say that you need a really long extension chord because it will not operate without electricity. This means that if you don’t have one lying round, you will have to get one, which is an additional cost.

The verdict

If you want a simple, chainsaw for odd jobs around your home and yard, there is nothing better than the Poulan Pro 400e. There’s no maintenance that you need for this machine, apart from giving it a good clean before you set it aside, and because it is electrical, all you have to do is to plug it in and press the starter switch to get it working.

At $80 it is a bargain, and unless you really don’t need one, there is no reason for you to go with a gas powered one, even if it is cheaper. You cannot start them after laying them aside for a couple of months without servicing the motor, and you also have the noise and smoke. Even though this model uses electricity, it’s not too much of a drain as long as you don’t stress the motor too much. If you take things nice and easy, you end up using far less than even you think you will.

If you have your own home with a yard and a couple of trees and other shrubs/bushes, you can do far worse than getting one for yourself. They last a long time, and will have repaid you ten times their cost by the time you feel you need to replace them.

>>> Click here to get the Poulan Pro 400E on Sale! <<<

McCulloch chainsaws are very popular because they offer, cheap, serviceable chainsaws. They are definitely not the best in the industry, but they work and they get the job done. When compared to other chainsaws that cost nearly $400, you get ones starting around $120 from McCulloch.

If you want something even cheaper, you can go with their electrical ones that cost less than $100.

McCulloch chainsaws tend to get polarized reactions from their users. People either give it a 5 star rating or a 1 star. The problem is that they are made for a specific purpose and with a certain market in mind, and if you do not do your research properly you are definitely going to be disappointed.

>>> Click here to compare the best selling McCulloch chainsaws Online <<<

For example, if you want a really powerful chainsaw and one that is so robustly built that it is just its size that prevents it being used in the logging industry, you will have to shell out quite a bit of money.

Most home owners however are not loggers, and the chances of them ever wanting to cut down a tree is remote. Most of us want something that can be used to trim the branches of any trees we have in our yard, or maybe prune some shrubs. Sometimes, you may even want them to chop up some firewood, if you are in the habit of getting them in large blocks.

An electrical chainsaw is more than enough for these purposes which is why they are very popular. Electrical motors are not as finicky as gas ones, and they also keep much better, in the sense that you can leave them lying around for months on end, and then when you plug them in and switch them on, they will work.

McCulloch has a few electrical chainsaws for this reason in their line. They are pretty decent and although they are not the most powerful they are adequate for most of our needs. The only problem with them is that they are constrained by the length of the extension chord. Also some of us do not like the fact that there is a wire snaking along behind us.

If it gets snagged somewhere when we are using it, it can be potentially dangerous, which is why McCulloch also has a few gas powered chainsaws that you can choose from.

The good thing about them is that they are cheap, you get them for around $120. The bad thing about them is that everything about them feels cheap. This is the cause of the polarized reactions. If you understand that you are paying cut rate prices for a chainsaw, you will definitely be happy with these. If on the other hand you want something more robust and better quality, you will be disappointed.

All McCulloch chainsaws are made to a price, and they also make sure that all their parts are very easily replaced. This means that if something breaks you can only replace that part and you are good to go. You don’t need to replace the whole machine.

The motor fires up at the first pull, and you can even cut down small trees with it. It may huff and puff like a middle aged man on a treadmill, but it can do it. The plastics all rattle and vibrate and give you the feeling that they are going to shake itself to pieces in a few seconds, but even after a couple of hours still remain fixed.

Of course you can get better ones, but none as good as this at this price. Everything that costs the same is even worse than the McCulloch. This is why you will have to know beforehand what you need the chainsaw for before you get one.

If you are going to be using fairly regularly, then you may need a more powerful one. If on the other hand you are like the vast majority of us who just need something that will simplify yard work, this is more than enough. It gives us everything that we ask for, it is cheap, it works, and parts are easy to come by. If you have to sacrifice a little in terms of user experience, you also get a very good deal in terms of price. A very compromise package.

>>> Click here to compare the best selling McCulloch chainsaws Online <<<

Husqvarna Chain Saws

Husqvarna makes construction equipment. Starting from chainsaws to remote demolition robots, they have a wide range of equipment for both building up and pulling down. They are one of the top companies in the world, and are known for their top quality products.

When it comes to chainsaws, Husqvarna is known to make some of the most powerful in the business. They believe that the only good chainsaw is a powerful one, and even if you go in for their supposedly bottom line home-use chainsaws, you still get the most kick for you buck with them.

>>> Click here to compare the best selling Husqvarna Chainsaws Online <<<

Husqvarna Models

They have two different models of chainsaws in their product line, one is their 18 inch long 450 chainsaw and the other is their 20 inch long 455 Rancher. Both of them are ditto to each other, except for the fact that the 455 rancher has a 2 inch longer blade.

In terms of cost they are a little on the expensive side. While you can find a number of quite serviceable and adequate electrical chainsaws for less than $100 these cost $370+. For the simple yard work that they are going to be used for most of the time, this may seem like a bit of overkill.

Yet they have two things going for them. One is their power. There is simply no other chainsaw that gives you as much power as they do, and if you take the 450 it weighs in only at 14.5 lbs which is very decent. You don’t have to be a hulk to carry this around and use it.

The second is the convenience of being able to use it without any encumbrances. For example if you had a small tree that you needed to prune, imagine the difficulty involved with an electrical chainsaw. Starting from having a long enough extension chord to the wire getting snagged everywhere on branches, you’d be lucky if you got off with your limbs intact.

The Husqvarna gives you the freedom of operation that you expect in a chainsaw and although many people may think that the vibration would shake their joints lose, the newer models are not that bad. They have special dampers, and the design of the crank itself has been improved to both dampen vibration and give better fuel economy.

Even in case you want to replace anything, all parts are available very easily online. You get chain sharpening equipment which will keep your blade sharp for longer, and if it gets too worn down, you can even replace the chain. Even the fuel and oil is available online if you have any difficulty in purchasing them.

They are also very well put together, and you get absolutely no problem with them like you do with the cheaper ones. The plastic parts are all solidly made, and you don’t get the feeling that after a couple of uses, the whole contraption will just shake itself to pieces.

Husqvarna Brand

Husqvarna is a well respected name when it comes to this kind of equipment, and if there is any negative at all in them it is that they tend to be a little on the expensive side. Yet if you are going to really need a chainsaw, as in going to use it rather than just have one lying around to give that macho image, then the price is not too high. They are very reliable and last years, and apart from filling up their fuel and oil containers, do not need anything else in the form of maintenance.

They are a man thing and most men want to own one, even if they are not going to be using it more than once or twice a year.

The simple thing about chainsaws is that most men want them as powerful as they can get. Yet with most of us being in the physical condition that we are in, we also want one that is lightweight, and small enough so that they can be handled easily.

This is how the small, for-yard-use chainsaws saw the light of day. People who want to have a small machine that they can use to trim their trees, prune branches, and even shape their bushes can very easily do it with a chainsaw.

>>> Click here to get the Husqvarna 455 Rancher Chain Saw on Sale! <<<

What we look for therefore is a chainsaw that packs in more power than anything around, yet is small and convenient enough to be used even by novices. The Husqvarna 455 Rancher is one such machine and we are going to take a close look at what exactly makes it so good.

Husqvarna 455 Rancher Description and Features

The 455 Rancher is like any other chainsaw. It has a 20 inch chainsaw powered by a 3.2 HP gas motor. The chain is self oiling, and you get the mandatory guard for your hand too. In terms of product description, it is just the same as any other chainsaw that you can get in the market.

The Pros

The good thing about this machine is its power. People who have used other similar, small chainsaws all agree that the Husqvarna is the most powerful machine there is. You just set the choke on, pull the start chord, and the engine starts up smoothly. You toggle the simple, but large start/stop switch to switch on and stop the chainsaw.

Many people in fact say that it is so powerful that it can be used for light commercial work, and that it can even cut through small trees easily. For those who really need a chainsaw, this model would probably be the best that they can get, unless they want to go for the much larger industrial grade ones.

The Cons

The only thing negative about this model is its price. It costs nearly $385 and if you need a chainsaw only for trimming down your herbiage once or twice a year, you really don’t need this one. You can go with a similarly sized but much cheaper electrically powered one, because they keep better.

Apart from this one thing, there is really nothing bad about this machine at all.

Conclusion

Getting the Husqvarna 455 Rancher all depends on what you want. If you only need something to cut a few bushes once a year, a simple pruning knife would do. If you want something more macho you can get an electrical chainsaw. You really don’t have to spend $400 on something only to set it on a shelf for months on end.

If however you really need one where you live, and are going to be using the chainsaw for at least two times a month, you will very soon find that the electrical ones just do not cut the mustard. What with the wires having to be pulled along wherever you go, you really don’t have the freedom of movement that you will want.

The 455 Rancher is the best bet for you here, and since you are going to be using it often, there is no problem with the engine clogging up on you. If you feel that it is expensive, think of the amount of use you are going to be putting it to, and how many years it will last and all of a sudden it does not seem so expensive anymore.

Many people use a chainsaw for a variety of purposes. Starting from minor yard work like pruning shrubs and branches of trees, to cutting wood for firewood, and sometimes even bringing down small trees, depending on where you live the uses that people put their chainsaws to are numerous.

Although chainsaws are very versatile and have a number of uses, it is only as good as its teeth are. Just like a knife, the amount of effort you put into cutting things and the time taken to cut it depends on how sharp the cutting edge. If therefore you want your chainsaw to function properly, you will have to ensure that you keep the teeth sharp.

This can be done in two ways. You can either get a manual saw and use some elbow grease or you can go with an electrical sharpener. The only difference between both is in the time taken and effort that you have to put into sharpening it. Or you can get it done outside if you are willing to pay for it.

The way you sharpen is very basic. Each “tooth” of the chainsaw consists of a block of metal. This has a leading edge that does all the cutting. However the sides of the tooth too have to be at an angle to ensure that you get the correct cut. If you don’t shape the sides, you will end up with a larger leading edge, meaning that you will have to put in more effort to cut.

Usually the chain itself will have indications on the angle that you will have to give each tooth. Generally the leading edge will have to be shaped at an angle of 60 degrees while the sides are generally around 30 degrees.

The actual sharpening is very easy. After some use you will find that you are having to put in more effort to cut into anything. While new the saw will actually “self feed” which means that the edge will pull the saw closer to the object you are cutting, as it is cutting. Also the chips will be regular square or rectangular sized. After use the size of the chips will reduce until it will be like sawdust. By this stage, the saw is almost completely dull and will not be cutting at all, except if you put in a lot of effort and hold it at full power.

If you look at the blocks in the saw you will find that the leading edge that does the actual cutting, has blunted so that it does not have any edge at all. It will be worn down to the extent that each block will look like a square without a knife edge to it at all. To get your chainsaw working well once again, you just have to give it this edge, and starting from hand files you get a number of different chainsaw sharpeners that will do the job.

You have to file the leading edge down at the bottom so that it once again gets a 60 degree cutting edge. This can be done with a hand file itself. It is not very difficult, only time consuming, but these hand files can be purchased for less than $10. If you have the time and the inclination, this is good enough.

There are also a number of electrically powered sharpeners, starting around $30 all the way up to a couple of hundred. Generally they operate in two ways. The cheaper ones will need that the chain be removed from the blade for it to be sharpened, while the more expensive ones can sharpen the chain while it is on the blade itself.

The basic principles are the same. The machine holds the chain tight, and the sharpening wheel is kept at a 60 degree angle. All you have to do is to lower it down cutting into the teeth until the desired angle is reached.

Most of them work well, and the only difference is in how you like to do it. For example, there are wall mounted sharpeners, table mounted ones, and even hand held ones. Each of them work differently and also cost different, so take a look at everything and choose the best one for you.

Chainsaw sharpening is not a big deal, and can be done by anyone. Even if you use your chainsaw only a couple of times a year, it is good to ensure that the saw is sharp before you start because it makes cutting easier, faster, and more economical.

This models is a small, for-home use chainsaw. Most homes that have a yard will have some sort of plants/trees growing there, there’s no point in a yard otherwise. If there are plants, they will need trimming or pruning, and the simplest way to do this is to use a small chainsaw.

There are a number of these chainsaws in the market, each one vying with each other in terms of usability and power. If you are accustomed to using one, you may very well know exactly what you want, but if you are like the vast majority of us, and haven’t used them much, comparing a few before you buy one is a good idea.

In this review we are taking up the Husqvarna 450.

>>> Click here to get the Husqvarna 450 Gas Powered Chain Saw <<<

Husqvarna 450 Description and Features

There’s not much need for a physical description of a chainsaw, all of us know how a chainsaw looks like. The chain is 18 inches long, comes with a self oiling feature to keep it oiled, and a powerful 3.2 HP motor that is powerful enough for anything. It comes with vibration dampers to reduce vibration, and a gas motor that is very frugal. It is also quite light at only 14.5 lbs.

The Good

Most users feel that this is one powerful motor. In fact those who have used electrical motors in the past just do not find any comparison as this one, just chews through anything. It does not vibrate as much as earlier models, and because it has a redesigned crank, is not only much smoother, is also less noisy. It does not pollute as much, and more to the point, it does not get overheated.

One particular user has pointed out that even after three hours of continuous use, this motor was working just fine.

It comes with a unique centrifugal air cleaning system that ensures that no solid matter enters through the air intake, spoiling the engine.

The Bad

There’s just two things in the negative for this model. The first is the price. At $370 it is quite a bit more expensive than other similarly sized, but electrically powered chainsaws. Considering that most homes are not going to be needing chainsaws frequently, this is just too much money to put into a machine that you will use just a couple of times a year.

The second thing is that for just $15 more than the $370 you pay for this you can get the Husqvarna 455 rancher that gives you a 20 inch long chainsaw. Although there is absolutely no difference between the 450 and the 455 barring this, the extra 2 inches may mean a lot, especially since you are paying only $15 for it.

My Conclusion

If you do not have the option of using an electrically powered chainsaw in your home, then this is one of the best saws that you can go with. Even if you just want a chainsaw for yard work, if you are going to be using it frequently, as in once a week or a couple of times a month, then the 450 is the one to go with.

The advantage of an electrical chainsaw gets negated when you use them frequently because then you need more power, and the 450 has much much more.

Of course considering that the 455 Rancher is just $15 more, that one makes more sense, but if you really do not need the extra length, then this one is good enough. Especially as this one weighs only 15 lbs while the 455 Rancher weighs 21.

>>> Click here to get the Husqvarna 450 Gas Powered Chain Saw <<<
